How will the city of the future sound? And how does mobility planning change if we focus on our hearing sense instead of our visual sense?

Cabin 2A | 12:15-13:30 | Challenge 2

Wolfgang Gruel, Andre Landwehr

Current discussions about future cities are limited to our visual senses. We see many pictures of the future that contain smart infrastructure and new vehicles. But we have more senses. In this workshop we ask the question: “How will the city of the future sound?” We will first illustrate a city soundscape where current mobility modes are replaced by equivalent electric modes. Then, we will investigate how focusing on our hearing sense might change the way we perform mobility planning. Together, we will create mobility models for the Grasbrook site, a new development area in Hamburg, focusing on sound and using a computer model that illustrates potential outcomes.
